LOCALLY LED CONSERVATION

Deer Lodge Valley & North Powell Conservation Districts

Our Mission

During the 1930s, the nation faced widespread soil erosion brought on by the Dust Bowl, prompting communities to create local conservation districts. Among these efforts, the Deer Lodge Valley and North Powell Conservation Districts were established in 1949 by landowners who wanted to protect the natural resources of Deer Lodge and Powell counties. Since then, DLVCD and NPCD have upheld a strong tradition of community-driven conservation, guided by their board of supervisors and dedicated staff for the past 77 years.

310 Permitting

Planning work in or near a stream or river? A 310 Permit is required to ensure projects protect water quality, stream stability, and neighboring properties. Administered by your local conservation district, this free permit helps guide responsible project design and compliance.

Education & Outreach

Through events like Natural Resource Field Day, Arbor Day Tree Planting, and our Livestock Seminar, we engage community members in hands-on conservation learning and stewardship activities. Explore upcoming events and discover ways to get involved.
